Most of us growing up have some kind of hobby or thing that we love to do and when it is time to go to school or get a job, we are told to forget about that thing and go study something or get a job doing something that we don’t love. I am here to tell you that you should first figure out what you love to do, and then get a job doing that thing that you love. Or even better off, start a company doing that thing that you love.
This goes against traditional thinking, but there is to much social proof of people who are already out there that have found a way to make their hobbies profitable and build a business that they love and are passionate about. Keep in mind that you must figure out how to monetize your dream, because you can’t keep doing your hobby for a very long time unless you have a way to pay your bills. But when your work is your hobby, you will have much less stress and can work all day.
Look at your passion, the thing you love to do and figure out what is missing for all the other people who love doing that as well. Can you make an improvement on something in that niche or completely offer something new to them? Learn to fill a void in the marketplace and if your product or service caters to the needs and wants of others, you will be on your way to having a successful company.
Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither are all the other successful companies that we see out in the marketplace, so be patient. As a start up business owner, you are going to be working longer than the traditional nine to five job, so you may as well find something that you enjoy. Entrepreneurs are notorious for working into the wee hours of the night and long weekends, but if your business in your pleasure, you will have a different perception of work as most other do, you will actually enjoy your work.
Now maybe you are not ready to open up your own business, you can at least find another company that caters to people you enjoy spending time with. This is a start to creating your dream business and can become your dream job until you are ready to start your own. Look for a company that you can learn from and you don’t count the hours down to leave. Find somewhere to work that not only pays your bill, because what is more important is that you will use this job as a stepping stone for when you are ready to become a full time entrepreneur.
Don’t wait to start your own company, but also don’t be foolish about it either. You can start part time and only when it makes sense, should you jump in full time. Begin to build some revenue and have a plane to scale the business so when you are full time, you will not skip a beat. The next steps are yours, so choose them wisely and you could become a very happy entrepreneur.
