This is a helpful article. It is good to hear that other mothers are going through the same things I do. My son is 2 and my daughter is 3 months old. I love them but by the end of the day I am totally over it! I start the day great but by the end of some days I want to run away! I want my life back, I want a wine, I want to relate to carefree girl friends again! I feel trapped.

Amen! I was laid off from my job when my daughter was 4 months old...now she is 2 1/2. I thought it was the end of the world and no one would respect me as a SAHM and that I would not be mentally stimulated enough. Now, I am loving being home with my daughter and when people say how smart she is I am so excited that I can feel good about how I raised her. I also have learned so much about dinosaurs, the spanish language and the weather.

This is a great article. I think you made an excellent point in your first paragraph when you stated that because your husband's mom was a SAHM, that he supported your decision to stay at home. I think it's really hard for women who want to stay at home and think it's the right thing to do, and not have their husbands support.

I loved it when you said you can name all the names of the dinosuars, can you? That's one of the things I love best about being a mom - I get to start all over again. I get to act like a kid all over again, and I can relearn everything that I forgot in my youth all over again. It's like SAHM's get a second chance.

One other thing that's quirky about such setups is, a father may be very eager to share every moment of the weekend with the kids, being at work all day all weekend... but the mother is all for intimate dates or literally time away from the home by then :D

I loved this article! It is so true about being a SAHM. I worked for many years in corporate America, bringing in a salary equal to my husband's. I was never going to be a SAHM -- or so I thought. Once I had my daughter, the closer it got to returning to work, the more I thought, "I can't leave her with a babysitter!"

I love being home with my kids (daughter 7 and son 5), but I think the hardest thing about being a SAHM is that you lose some sense of yourself. I find myself arguing with my husband sometimes because I'm trying to convince him that I did work all day - laundry, dishes, homework, etc. I know he doesn't think I'm sitting around all day watching soap operas and eating bon bons, but I feel like I need to justify what I did all day.

Money is tight and, yes, we have had to make sacrifices, but I would rather enjoy as many moments with my children as I can, because like everyone says, "they grow up so fast"!!!
